New Delhi: India is witnessing a gradual yet noticeable rise in COVID-19 cases, prompting health authorities across multiple states to issue precautionary advisories. According to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry, the country currently has 257 active cases, with new infections reported in Delhi, Haryana, Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh.
While officials stress that the overall situation remains under control, the sudden increase has led states to reinforce safety measures. Delhi, in particular, has reported 23 fresh cases—its first significant surge in nearly three years. Health Minister Pankaj Singh confirmed that all infected individuals are stable and under medical supervision. “Hospitals have been advised to ensure beds, oxygen supplies, essential medicines, and vaccination services are fully prepared,” Singh said.
In response to the uptick, Delhi has resumed genome sequencing of all positive samples to monitor potential variants. Other states, including Kerala and Karnataka, are reviewing hospital readiness and urging citizens to continue following COVID-appropriate behavior such as mask usage in crowded places and hand hygiene.
Although the current numbers remain low compared to previous waves, health departments are taking a cautious approach to prevent any potential outbreaks. Public health experts have emphasized the importance of early detection, vaccination boosters, and transparent reporting to maintain control over the virus’s spread.
Authorities are also monitoring international travel patterns and variant trends closely, especially amid global reports of minor surges in different regions.
